FSC Trace provides infrastructure that allows critical data about the origin of forest-based products to flow from forest managers to downstream customers who need it for EUDR reporting.

Draft Due Diligence Statements & Reports automatically, so that they are generated on demand for your submission to competent authorities.

Integrates information from risk assessments that are created under a tailored risk framework and then verified by an FSC audit.

Data needed for due diligence is automatically pulled and consistently structured for you, all in one place. This makes it easy to use, especially when you’re dealing with complex or dynamic supply chains that produce a lot of data.

FSC Risk Assessment

The information collected must be analyzed and verified. A risk assessment should be conducted based on the verified information to determine if there's a risk that the products intended for sale are not deforestation-free or produced in accordance with relevant legislation.

Use the existing FSC Risk Assessment to identify the risk level related to relevant indicators.

If no FSC Risk Assessment is available, the organization may use the simplified risk assessment template provided by FSC.

Products should only be sold as FSC certified if the risk assessment reveals no or negligible risk that the products are not deforestation-free or not produced in accordance with relevant legislation. Otherwise they can be sold at a later stage if risk mitigation measures have been implemented.

The risk assessment must be reviewed at least annually to ensure continued correctness and relevance. Revise if necessary.

Collected information must be made available to competent authorities upon request.

Risk Mitigation

When a risk assessment indicates a non-negligible risk that the product is not deforestation-free or produced in accordance with relevant legislation, the organization must apply risk mitigation procedures before selling the products.

Policies, controls, and procedures to effectively mitigate and manage the risks of non-conformity with the product must be maintained.

Some examples include:

  • Best practice risk management practices

  • Reporting and record keeping

  • Internal control and compliance management (not applicable for SMEs)

Show and document how decisions on risk mitigation procedures and measures were taken. These decisions must be documented, reviewed annually, revised if necessary, and made available to competent authorities upon request.

The organization can demonstrate conformity through FSC Forest Management Certification.
